Chapter 12: The Abyss
The Abyss is the twelfth and final chapter of Crimson Desert's main story, bringing Kliff's epic journey to its climactic conclusion. With reality itself collapsing into the Abyss, Kliff must lead one final assault, confront the source of all corruption, and make the ultimate sacrifice to save the world.
Story Context & Lore
The Abyss Collapse is an apocalyptic event - the barrier between the Abyss and reality is disintegrating. If it completes, all of existence will be consumed, merged into an infinite void of consciousness where individuality ceases to exist.
The Source is revealed: the Abyss isn't collapsing naturally - it's being deliberately torn apart by The Void, an entity born from humanity's collective despair, hatred, and fear. Every negative emotion ever felt has coalesced into a singular consciousness that seeks to end all suffering by ending all existence.
Gabriel Caliburn didn't die in Chapter 8 - his consciousness survived in the Abyss, and he's become the Void's herald, believing oblivion is preferable to the endless cycle of war and suffering.
Fort Musket is Demeniss's last stronghold, where they're attempting to weaponize the Abyss collapse for one final devastating attack. The allied forces must breach it to reach the Forbidden Gate - a portal to the Abyss's heart.
The Ultimate Sacrifice: To seal the Abyss and save reality, someone must enter the Void permanently, becoming a living seal. This person will cease to exist as an individual, their consciousness dissolved into the Abyss to maintain the barrier forever.
The chapter's title, The Abyss, is literal - Kliff must descend into the deepest part of the Abyss, face the Void itself, and make a choice that will define the fate of all existence.
This is the point of no return - once you begin this chapter, you cannot go back. All side quests, collectibles, and optional content must be completed beforehand.

Quest 1: The Final Battle
Region: Fort Musket, Demeniss
Type: Epic Final Assault Quest
Story Summary
The allied forces launch their final assault on Fort Musket to reach the Forbidden Gate before the Abyss collapse becomes irreversible.
Mission 1: Precise Execution
Objectives:
Report to Fort Musket's Outpost
Walkthrough:
The Calm Before the Storm:
The allied army has gathered outside Fort Musket - the largest military force ever assembled:
Greymanes (Sebastian leading)
Hernadian Army (Marshal Middler commanding)
Calphade Knights (Marquis Lanford)
Pailune Resistance (Torstein)
Orc War Machines (Valgash)
Eastern Mystics (Master Jiahn)
Witches (Morgana)
Delesyian Sky Fleet (Admiral Theron)
Damiane and her reformed Demenissian knights
The Gathering:
At the command tent, all leaders are present for the final briefing.
Sebastian's Address:
"This is it. Everything we've fought for comes down to this moment. Fort Musket stands between us and the Forbidden Gate. Beyond that gate lies the Abyss's heart. If we don't seal it, reality ends. Not just our nations, not just our world - everything."
The Plan:
Marshal Middler outlines the strategy:
Destroy the Ultimate Weapons - Fort Musket has three superweapons that can annihilate the army
Breach the Rear Gate - The main gates are impregnable; a rear entrance is the only way
Reach the Forbidden Gate - Fight through to the Abyss portal
Someone enters the Abyss - Seal it from within
The Cost:
Everyone knows this is a suicide mission. Many won't return.
Farewells:
This is your last chance to speak with companions:
Sebastian: "You've been like a son to me, Kliff. Whatever happens in there, know that the Greymanes will never forget you."
Damiane: "I've lost my brother, my homeland, everything. But fighting beside you gave me purpose again. Thank you."
Your Family (Elena and Mira): They're safe in Delesyia, but you can visit them one last time via transporter.
Elena: "I just got you back, and now you're leaving again. Promise me you'll come home."
Kliff's Response: You can:
Promise: "I will. I swear it." (lie to comfort her)
Honest: "I'll do everything I can." (truth - you might not survive)
Silent: Just embrace them (no words needed)
Mira: "You're a hero, big brother. Heroes always win, right?"
Emotional Weight:
This scene hits hard - players know what's coming.
Return to Battle:
Travel back to Fort Musket's outpost. The assault begins at dawn.
Mission 2: Deferred Advance
Objectives:
Destroy the Leftmost Ultimate Weapon
Destroy the Central Ultimate Weapon
Destroy the Rightmost Ultimate Weapon
Walkthrough:
The Assault Begins:
At dawn, the allied army charges Fort Musket.
Epic Battle Cutscene:
A.T.A.G.s marching forward
Dragons soaring overhead
Thousands of soldiers running toward the fortress
Demenissian defenders firing from the walls
Explosions, magic, chaos
Your Mission:
While the army engages the main defenses, you lead an elite strike team to destroy the Ultimate Weapons.
Strike Team:
Kliff (you)
Sebastian
Damiane
Oongka (Greymane tracker)
Roderick (rescued Greymane from Chapter 6)
Infiltration:
Use the chaos of battle as cover to reach the weapons.
1. Leftmost Ultimate Weapon: The Annihilator
Description: A massive cannon powered by Abyss energy, capable of firing a beam that disintegrates everything in its path.
Location: Western tower of Fort Musket
Approach:
Fight through defenders (level 66 elite soldiers).
The Weapon:
The Annihilator is charging - you have 5 minutes before it fires (would wipe out half the allied army).
Sabotage:
Destroy the power cores (3 total):
Core 1: In the base of the cannon
Core 2: Mid-section
Core 3: Firing chamber
Each core is guarded by 5 soldiers and a mini-boss (level 67 champion).
Time Pressure:
The countdown is real - if time runs out, the weapon fires (instant game over).
Destruction:
With all cores destroyed, the Annihilator overloads and explodes.
2. Central Ultimate Weapon: The Vortex Engine
Description: A device that creates localized Abyss rifts, pulling enemies into the void.
Location: Central courtyard
Approach:
The courtyard is a warzone - hundreds of soldiers fighting.
The Weapon:
The Vortex Engine is active, creating rifts that are consuming allied soldiers.
Sabotage:
Reverse the polarity (close the rifts and overload the engine):
Step 1: Access the control panel
Step 2: Solve the puzzle (redirect energy flow - match the pattern shown on screen)
Step 3: Overload the system
Defense:
While working, waves of enemies attack (10 waves, increasing difficulty).
Sebastian's Sacrifice:
During the 8th wave, Sebastian is wounded protecting you.
Critical Moment:
"Keep working! I'll hold them off!"
He fights valiantly but takes a mortal wound.
Completion:
The Vortex Engine overloads, rifts close, and it explodes.
Sebastian's Final Words:
Rush to his side:
"Kliff... finish this. Make it... mean something. The Greymanes... are yours now. Lead them... better than I did."
He dies in your arms.
Emotional Impact:
One of the game's most heartbreaking moments. Sebastian, your mentor and father figure, is gone.
Rage:
Kliff's grief transforms into determination. The mission continues.
3. Rightmost Ultimate Weapon: The Soul Harvester
Description: A machine that drains life force from living beings, converting it into Abyss energy.
Location: Eastern wing
Approach:
You're alone now (the strike team is scattered or dead). This is personal.
The Weapon:
The Soul Harvester is active, draining allied soldiers on the battlefield below.
Sabotage:
Destroy it by overloading its containment field:
Fight through guards (15 elite soldiers, level 68)
Reach the core chamber
Plant explosives (provided by Valgash earlier)
Escape before detonation (60 seconds)
Boss Fight: The Harvester Guardian
Level: 69
Type: Abyss-Corrupted Super Soldier
Appearance: Massive warrior infused with harvested souls
Attacks:
Soul Strike: Drains your HP
Spectral Army: Summons ghosts of the harvested
Life Drain Aura: Passive HP drain
Desperation: At 20% HP, absorbs all nearby souls for full heal (can only happen once)
Strategy:
Interrupt Soul Strike (high priority)
AoE attacks clear Spectral Army quickly
Use Abyss Mastery to resist Life Drain Aura
When he attempts Desperation, use the Keystone Artifact to block it
Defeat:
The Guardian falls. Plant the explosives and run.
Explosion:
The Soul Harvester detonates in a massive explosion, taking out a section of the fortress wall.
All Weapons Destroyed:
With the Ultimate Weapons neutralized, the allied army can advance.
Mission 3: Departure of the Brave
Objectives:
Participate in the Departure Ceremony
Wait for the Signal
Breach the Rear Gate of Fort Musket
Walkthrough:
1. The Ceremony:
Before the final push, the army holds a brief ceremony for the fallen.
Honoring the Dead:
Sebastian's body is laid with others who've fallen. Torches are lit. A moment of silence.
Kliff's Speech:
As the new leader of the Greymanes, you must speak:
Speech Options:
Inspiring: "They died so we could stand here. We honor them by finishing this."
Vengeful: "Demeniss will pay for every life lost. We end this today."
Solemn: "We remember them. We carry them with us. We will not fail."
Army's Response:
The soldiers roar in approval. Morale is high despite the losses.
2. Wait for the Signal:
The rear gate assault requires perfect timing. Wait for Valgash's signal (he's positioning A.T.A.G.s).
Preparation:
Final equipment check. This is the absolute last chance to:
Upgrade gear
Consume buffs
Equip best items
The Signal:
A flare arcs into the sky. Time to move.
3. Breach the Rear Gate:
Assault:
Your team (what's left of it) plus 50 elite soldiers assault the rear gate.
Defense:
The gate is heavily defended:
40+ elite guards (level 68-70)
3 war machines (mechanical defenders)
1 gate commander (mini-boss, level 70)
Large-Scale Battle:
This is the game's biggest ground battle:
Allies fighting alongside you
Enemies pouring from the fortress
War machines firing
Magic and steel clashing
Chaos everywhere
Objective:
Reach the gate mechanism and open it.
Gate Commander Fight:
The commander blocks your path - a massive warrior in black armor.
Quick Boss Fight:
Similar difficulty to previous mini-bosses but faster-paced (no time for a long fight).
Strategy:
Aggressive offense
Use special abilities liberally
Allies will help (let them distract while you attack)
Gate Opens:
With the commander defeated, open the gate. The allied army pours through.
Mission 4: Forbidden Gate
Objectives:
Pursue Caliburn
Walkthrough:
Inside Fort Musket:
Fight through the fortress interior:
Corridors filled with enemies
Collapsing architecture (the Abyss collapse is affecting the structure)
Reality distortions (walls shifting, gravity fluctuating)
The Throne Room:
At the fortress's heart, you find the Forbidden Gate - a massive portal swirling with Abyss energy.
Gabriel Caliburn:
He's there, waiting. But he's changed - his form is partially dissolved into Abyss energy, more entity than human.
Confrontation:
"Kliff. You've come to stop me. To 'save' the world. But you don't understand - I'm offering salvation. The Void will end all suffering, all war, all pain. Isn't that what we all want? Peace?"
Kliff's Response:
You can:
Reject: "That's not peace. That's oblivion."
Understand: "I understand the temptation. But life, even with suffering, is worth living."
Attack: "Enough talk." (skip to boss fight)
Gabriel's Madness:
"Then you'll die with the rest. The Void will consume everything, and I'll finally be free of this cursed existence."
Boss Fight: Gabriel Caliburn, Herald of the Void
Level: 72
Type: Abyss Entity (Former Human)
Appearance: Floating, body flickering between solid and energy, eyes pure black
Phase 1 (100%-70% HP):

Void Bolt: Fast dark energy projectiles
Reality Tear: Creates rifts that damage you
Teleport Strike: Vanishes and reappears attacking
Summon Void Spawn: Creates shadow creatures
Strategy:
Stay mobile (his projectiles track)
Close rifts quickly (interact with them)
Void Spawn are weak but numerous - AoE attacks
After Teleport Strike, he's vulnerable for 2 seconds
Phase 2 (70%-40% HP):
Transformation:
Gabriel's human form fades further.
New Attacks:
Void Storm: Arena-wide damage
Despair Aura: Reduces your damage output
Memory Assault: Shows you visions of everyone who's died (resist or be stunned)

Gabriel becomes fully Void-touched, barely recognizable.
Ultimate Attacks:
Void Collapse: Attempts to pull you into the Abyss
Final Judgment: At 10% HP, massive attack
Strategy:
Use Abyss Step to escape Void Collapse
For Final Judgment, use all defensive abilities simultaneously
Finish him with everything you have
Defeat:
Gabriel falls, his form dissolving.
Final Words:
"I... I just wanted... the pain to stop. Is that... so wrong?"
Kliff's Response:
"No. But ending everything isn't the answer."
Death:
Gabriel fades completely, leaving only the Forbidden Gate.
Rewards
None (this is the finale)
Quest 2: The Void (FINAL QUEST)
Region: The Heart of the Abyss
Type: Final Boss & Ending Quest
Story Summary
Kliff enters the Forbidden Gate, descends to the Abyss's heart, confronts the Void, and makes the ultimate choice that determines the game's ending.
The Descent
Enter the Gate:
Step through the Forbidden Gate. Reality dissolves.
The Abyss:
You're in the deepest part of the Abyss - the Heart, where all consciousness converges.
The Environment:
Impossible to describe - constantly shifting, abstract, beautiful and terrifying simultaneously:
Floating islands of crystallized memories
Rivers of liquid thought
Structures that exist in more dimensions than three
The collective consciousness of all humanity, past and present
Navigation:
Follow the path of light (your enlightenment guides you).
Encounters:
Along the way, you meet echoes:
Echo of Your Father (Jian): "I'm proud of you, son. You've become the man I always knew you could be."
Echo of Sebastian: "Lead them well, Kliff. The Greymanes are in good hands."
Echo of Everyone You've Lost: All the fallen appear, offering encouragement.
Emotional Journey:
This is a farewell to everyone who's died throughout the game.
The Void
The Center:
At the Abyss's absolute heart, you find The Void - an entity of pure darkness, the size of a mountain, pulsing with malevolent energy.
The Void's Voice:
It speaks directly into your mind:
"Why do you resist? I offer peace. An end to suffering. No more war, no more loss, no more pain. Just... nothing. Isn't that better than the endless cycle of struggle?"
Kliff's Response:
This is the game's central philosophical question.
Dialogue Options:
Defiant: "Life is struggle. That's what makes it meaningful."
Compassionate: "I understand the pain. But destroying everything isn't the answer."
Determined: "I won't let you erase existence. Not while I still breathe."
The Void's Response:
"Then you will join the nothing. All things end, Kliff. I am merely hastening the inevitable."
Final Boss: The Void
Level: 75
Type: Primordial Entity
Appearance: Massive, shapeless darkness with countless eyes
Phase 1 (100%-80% HP):
Attacks:
Void Tendrils: Lashing attacks from all directions
Existential Dread: Mental attack (resist or lose control)
Reality Erasure: Deletes sections of the arena
Summon Despair: Creates manifestations of your failures
Strategy:
Constant movement (tendrils are everywhere)
Use Abyss Mastery to resist Existential Dread
Stay on solid ground (erased sections = instant death)
Despair manifestations must be destroyed quickly
Phase 2 (80%-60% HP):
Escalation:
The Void grows larger, more aggressive.
New Attacks:
Void Wave: Sweeping attack across the arena
Temporal Distortion: Slows your movement
Memory Drain: Attempts to erase your memories
Abyss Corruption: Tries to corrupt your Abyss powers
Strategy:
Jump over Void Wave
Abyss Step counters Temporal Distortion
The Keystone Artifact protects against Memory Drain
Your enlightenment prevents Abyss Corruption
Phase 3 (60%-40% HP):
Desperation:
The Void realizes you're actually a threat.
Ultimate Attacks:
Void Storm: Constant damage across the entire arena
Summon Void Avatars: Creates powerful minions
Reality Collapse: The arena begins disintegrating
Strategy:
Use Void Shield constantly during Void Storm
Avatars must be killed (they heal the Void if left alive)
Fight on the remaining solid ground
Phase 4 (40%-20% HP):
The Truth:
The Void speaks again:
"You cannot kill me. I am the sum of all despair, all hatred, all fear. As long as humanity exists, I exist. You can seal me, but I will return. This is futile."
Revelation:
It's right. You can't destroy it permanently.
The Woman in White Appears:
She manifests one final time:
"The Void speaks truth. It cannot be destroyed. But it can be sealed - if someone becomes the seal. A living barrier between the Abyss and reality. But that person... will cease to exist as an individual. Their consciousness will dissolve, becoming part of the Abyss forever."
The Choice:
This is it. The moment everything has led to.
Three Options:
Sacrifice Yourself (Heroic Ending)
Find Another Way (True Ending - requires specific conditions)
Embrace the Void (Dark Ending)
ENDING 1: Heroic Sacrifice
Choice: "I'll be the seal."
The Woman in White:
"Are you certain? You'll never see your family again. Never return to the world. You'll exist only as a barrier, conscious but alone, for eternity."
Kliff:
"I know. But if it saves everyone... it's worth it."
The Ritual:
You approach the Void. Place your hands on it.
Transformation:
Your body begins dissolving into pure energy. Painful, but you endure.
Visions:
As you dissolve, you see the world you're saving:
Your mother and sister, safe in Delesyia
The Greymanes rebuilding
Hernand at peace
Pailune thriving
Damiane finding happiness
The world healing
Final Thoughts:
"This is what I fought for. This is what it all meant. I'm... content."
Completion:
You become the seal. The Void is contained. Reality is saved.
Epilogue:
10 Years Later:
Cutscenes showing the world's recovery:
Howling Hill is a thriving town
Your mother and sister visit a memorial statue of you
Damiane leads a new order of knights dedicated to peace
The nations are united in a lasting alliance
Children play in fields that were once battlefields
Final Scene:
At your memorial, your sister (now an adult) speaks:
"Thank you, brother. You gave us a future. We won't waste it."
Credits Roll
Post-Credits:
In the Abyss, a whisper:
"I'm still here. Watching. Protecting. And I'm... happy."
ENDING 2: True Ending (The Balance)
Requirements:
Completed all major side quests
Made compassionate choices throughout the game
Achieved enlightenment in Chapter 9
Saved all possible companions
Choice: "There has to be another way."
The Woman in White:
"There is... one possibility. If enough people share the burden, the seal can be distributed. No one person dissolves completely - instead, everyone touched by the Abyss contributes a fragment of themselves."
The Solution:
Call upon everyone who's Abyss-touched:
Yourself
Damiane (touched during her trials)
Alustin (from his research)
Master Jiahn (from his enlightenment)
Morgana (witch magic uses Abyss energy)
All the companions you've saved
The Ritual:
Everyone contributes a piece of their consciousness. Together, you create a collective seal.
The Cost:
Each person loses something:
Memories
Abilities
Part of their identity
But they survive.
Completion:
The Void is sealed. Reality is saved. And you're alive.
Epilogue:
5 Years Later:
You've returned to a normal life:
Living with your family in Pailune
No longer a hero, just a person
You've lost your Abyss powers and many memories
But you're happy
Final Scene:
Sitting with your family at dinner:
Mira: "Do you ever miss it? The adventure?"
Kliff: "Sometimes. But this... this is better. This is what I fought for."
Credits Roll
Post-Credits:
The Woman in White watches from the Abyss:
"You found the balance. Well done, Kliff. The world is safe, and you get to live in it. That's the true victory."
ENDING 3: Dark Ending (Embrace the Void)
Choice: "Maybe... maybe you're right. Maybe oblivion is better."
The Woman in White:
"No! Kliff, don't—"
Too Late:
You embrace the Void, accepting its philosophy.
Transformation:
Instead of sealing the Void, you merge with it, becoming its new avatar.
Corruption:
Your consciousness is consumed. You become the Void.
The Collapse:
Reality begins dissolving into the Abyss.
Epilogue:
The End of Everything:
