Myurdin — Prologue Encounter
+Overview Most players will lose this fight on their first attempt — and that is entirely by design. Myurdin hits hard, the surrounding area is swarming with Black Bear soldiers, and the opening moments give you little time to orient yourself. Pearl Abyss structured this encounter to feel overwhelming on purpose: it is meant to establish Myurdin as a genuine threat and set the Greymanes' collapse in motion narratively. Can You Actually Win? Yes — but it changes nothing. Bringing Myurdin down to low health during the prologue is possible, though it requires clearing all nearby enemies first and then focusing him down in a sustained fight. The catch is that once his health drops far enough, a cutscene fires automatically regardless of what you have done. Kliff takes an arrow, goes off a cliff, and the story continues exactly as it would if you had simply died or been overwhelmed. There are no additional rewards, no achievement, no hidden dialogue, and no branching outcome. The game does not acknowledge the feat in any way. Consider it a hidden challenge rather than an alternative path. Tips If You Want to Try It The fight is doable, but it requires patience: Clear the soldiers first. Trying to duel Myurdin while his men are still standing is a reliable way to get staggered to death. Work through the camp systematically before turning your attention to him. Learn the parry timing early. The prologue is a good time to drill it — Myurdin telegraphs his swings clearly enough that you can get several clean parries in before the cutscene triggers. Do not expect a challenge reward. The game gives you nothing for pulling this off. If you are going to attempt it, do it for personal satisfaction rather than progression. Story Context This encounter takes place on the night the Black Bears attack the Greymane camp. Myurdin leads the assault personally, and the chaos of the ambush leaves Kliff isolated and outmatched. Whether you fight back hard or fall quickly, the outcome is the same: the Greymanes are shattered, and Kliff's long road to rebuild begins. The real rematch with Myurdin comes much later in the story — a full two-phase boss fight that plays out very differently and has genuine stakes.
